The Master and Margarita

The 30-part Audibook production was voted "Audiobook of the Year" in 1999. A fantastic adventure story, a love story, a philosophical parable about good and evil and the power and impotence of art, a grotesque about Russian bureaucracy - a Russian Faust. The novel "Master and Margarita" was written by Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov, in the Soviet Union between 1928 and 1940 during Stalin's regime. The story concerns a visit by the devil to the officially atheistic Soviet Union. The Master and Margarita combines supernatural elements with satirical dark comedy and Christian philosophy, defying a singular genre. Many critics consider it to be one of the best novels of the 20th century.
